Epic Games has announced that they will be publishing three games from huge developers under their Epic Games Publishing Brand.
These games are from the studios:
- Remedy Entertainment (Known for creating on Control, Alan Wake & Max Payne)
- gen DESIGN – (Known for creating Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian)
- Playdead (Known for creating Inside/Limbo)
Epic says that this new venture will be “a multiplatform publishing effort with a developer-first approach”. This likely means that these games will be exclusive to the Epic Games store on PC, but will also release on consoles.
The Epic Games Publishing brand works on the below principles:
- Full creative freedom and ownership. Developers retain 100% of all intellectual property and full creative control of their work.
- Fully-funded projects. Epic Games Publishing will cover up to 100% of development costs, from developer salaries to go-to-market expenses such as QA, localization, marketing, and all publishing costs.
- 50/50 profit sharing. Developers earn a fair share for their work — once costs are recouped, developers earn at least 50% of all profits.
It’ll be interesting to see how these games are revealed and what they look like. All three studios are massive powerhouses, and it’s a great get for Epic Games, but also great for Epic to support them to continue on their creative journey.
