Age Of Mythology Retold Is A New Definitive Edition Of The Classic Age Of Empires Spin-Off

By the gods!

World’s Edge and Xbox have announced during the Age of Empires 25th anniversary stream that 2002’s much-loved mythological spin-off of the Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, is staging a comeback fit for the gods as Age of Mythology Retold.

The original release of Age of Mythology took the tried-and-true real-time strategy gameplay that fans loved about the franchise and took it down a fantastical route with inspiration from the legends of Norse, Greek and Egyptian deities. Later expansions added Atlantean and Chinese cultures along with their associated gods. Presumably this new version of Age of Mythology will be all-inclusive package, but little is known yet about what this remaster/re-release will bring to the table.

“We know that the Age of Mythology community has been hopefully waiting for a Definitive Edition, and we’ll be delivering. We’re working hard to bring you the glory of the original game with updated graphics, features and more”, writes Michael Mann, Studio Head at World’s Edge, in the Xbox Wire summary of the anniversary event.

It was also announced during the anniversary stream that Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires 4 are both coming to Xbox consoles next year. You can read about those here.
