Studio Wildcard’s Unreal Engine 5-powered remaster of Ark: Survival Evolved, titled Ark: Survival Ascended, has surprise-dropped on PC today alongside the debut of a new trailer for the game at the Xbox Partner Preview Showcase.
Once again finding itself in “early access,” those on PC can purchase and start playing right now, though console players will have to wait just a little longer, as the studio says it identified some “critical issues” in the multiplayer version of the game while doing internal quality assurance that would have had major implications for the console versions. In light of this, it’s chosen to delay the launch of the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game until November – which isn’t all that far off.
This new version of Ark has had its fair share of issues leading up to launch, copping criticism from fans after it was announced as a complete replacement for the original version, meaning existing players would have to buy the remaster to continue playing on official servers. Not only that, but at first reveal it was planned that the only way to purchase the remaster was bundled with the upcoming full-fledged sequel, ARK 2. That’s obviously changed with Studio Wildcard instead opting to release it as a standalone, early access product (as odd as concept as an early access remaster is).
