The Rogue Prince Of Persia Is A New Roguelite Platformer From The Developers Of Dead Cells

Even more Prince of Persia!

While fans patiently wait for that remake of The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Ubisoft seems to be doing quite a bit of dabbling in other areas and directions for the franchise, including the recently-released metroidvania entry, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

It seems that the Prince’s return to 2D platforming isn’t over just yet though, with Ubisoft unveiling The Rogue Prince Of Persia, a brand-new “roguelite” side-scroller that’s in the works at Evil Empire, some of the folks behind one of the most iconic examples of the genre, Dead Cells.

The game sports a striking, lo-fi 2D art style that sports a very vibrant and considered palette, and the gameplay shown off in the debut trailer looks to be a good mix of style and substance with some especially cool-looking platforming and a killer score. The trailer also features a fantastic animated sequence that takes up most of its runtime but is absolutely worth the watch:

“Jump into this action roguelite installment in the Prince of Persia series as you flow between death-defying platforming and acrobatic combat as the Prince himself. Battle through the capital city again and again with one goal – find a way to save Persia from a Hun invasion wielding dark magic.”

We had the opportunity at an early hands-on with the game, with James W coming away largely impressed by what Evil Empire is doing with both the source material and its own expertise in the genre. You can read about his time with the game right here.

The Rogue Prince of Persia will be launching as an early access title, exclusively on PC, on May 14th, similarly to what Evil Empire’s parent studio Motion Twin did with Dead Cells’ initial launch. A wider release including consoles will follow at a future stage, and with the game having since been shaped by early access player feedback and added development.

You can wishlist the game on Steam now.
