Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Leaves Its Cover Star Up To You

Jonathon Dumont, creative director for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, revealed last night during a reddit AMA that the game would feature a reversible cover art. Much like the game itself, players would be able to choose between Alexios and Kassandra.

Reversible covers aren’t terribly commonplace in gaming just yet, but they do happen. Often they exist to include another stunning piece of art the developers couldn’t bear to have not representing their game, but examples exist where it’s so players can have a say about who features on the cover.

Alexios or Kassandra? The choice is yours.

Bioware famously included a reversible cover for Mass Effect 3, which was a bold leap forward for representation at the time. It, of course, featured the female Commander Shepard and, for the first time, provided some validation for those who opted for the female protagonist.

During large portions of their showings of the game so far, Ubisoft has portrayed Kassandra more often than Alexios and, interestingly, the game’s tie-in novelisation is written from her point of view.

Despite this, Ubisoft insists there’s no strict canon as to who the main protagonist is.

We, of course, went hands-on with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at E3 2018 and, needless to say, came away impressed. The game is set for release on October 5.
