PlayStation Looks To Be Teasing A New Crash Game Called Crash Bandicoot Worlds

According to internet sleuths, the brand new “It’s Time to Play” commercial by Sony may have just revealed an upcoming Crash Bandicoot sequel.

The evidence offered in support of this claim can be seen at the 0:11 -0:18 and takes the form of an unfamiliar mask floating above Doctor Neo Cortex’s racing kart. Wooden masks, possessed by friends and foes alike, have been a part of the Crash Bandicoot franchise since its inception in 1996, but the white, circular mask featured in this particular ad doesn’t belong to any other Crash game that we know of. At least not yet.

It’s worth mentioning that rumours of the next Crash Bandicoot game have been posted on 4chan recently, by the same person that leaked the N. Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing well before they were announced. Here’s what he had to say about the upcoming game:

“Crash Bandicoot Worlds will apparently see the marsupial travel around Earth in a Mario 3D world-styled adventure, featuring new enemies, characters, and more. Activision, Crash Bandicoot’s publisher, has said nothing, but the internet’s rumblings seems to suggest a reveal for Crash Bandicoot Worlds is imminent, and a trailer at this year’s Game Awards show in December seems likely, given that Nitro-Fueled debuted at the ceremony last year.”

When tagged in a Tweet about the mysterious mask, Toys for Bob character artist Nicholas Kole responded with a thinking face emoji, quoting the Tweet on his own timeline.

While there are few conclusions we can draw from this response alone, it certainly is interesting that the artist chose to address the speculation at all, even if he didn’t have much to say about it.

Indie game developer and self-proclaimed Crash fan known as “JumpButtonCB” posted this image of an outdoor advertisement for PlayStation, featuring what fans have identified as an updated model of Crash Bandicoot.

It’s worth mentioning that plenty of people have disagreed with the claim, convinced instead that it is the same model from the most recent Crash Bandicoot games, slightly tweaked for the ad. Still, the combination of the video and outdoor advertising, as well as the recent success of Crash Bandicoot: N’Sane Trilogy and Crash Team Racing provide a compelling reason to speculate that a new title may well be on the way.
