Spider-Man: Miles Morales Looks To Be An Expansion With Improvements To The Core Game

UPDATE: Insomniac Games has confirmed that the game is a standalone game and the “next adventure in the Spider-Man universe”.

Ever since Spider-Man: Miles Morales was announced on the PS5 stream earlier this morning, it was fairly unclear if it was a brand new full length game, although that seemed unlikely given the fact that the original game was released on PS4 18 months ago.

It now appears that it’s been confirmed to be an expansion, with the Spider-Man engine that was used on PS4 getting some PS5 related enhancements.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Sony Interactive Entertaimnment’s Head of European Business said:“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,”

“There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.” he continued.

This doesn’t really clear things up. It definitely sounds like it’s an expansion to the original game (which always seemed like it was the case) but it’s unclear if the original game will also be included to play on PS5 in an enhanced form, but it does look unlikely that the Miles Morales expansion will come to PS4 regardless.
