EA has announced that it will not meet FIFA’s demands and will instead part ways with FIFA next year. This means that FIFA 23 will be the last FIFA game created by EA, with next year’s iteration to be called EA Sports FC.
With more than 300 partners across the world EA says that EA Sports FC will provide the same football experience that we know and love, but dropping the FIFA license will allow them to grow and create new experiences that weren’t possible under this license.
“Our vision for EA SPORTS FC is to create the largest and most impactful football club in the world, at the epicenter of football fandom,” said Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson. “For nearly 30 years, we’ve been building the world’s biggest football community – with hundreds of millions of players, thousands of athlete partners, and hundreds of leagues, federations, and teams. EA SPORTS FC will be the club for every one of them, and for football fans everywhere.” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson.
Several major clubs have announced that they’ll be apart of EA Sports FC when it’s released in the middle of next year. Over 700 teams, more than 30 leagues and 19,000 athletes have been confirmed for the game.
FIFA 23 will release later this year and will include new game modes and the world cup will also play a big part in the game.
It’s said that FIFA is looking for a new partner to create games with the FIFA license, although it’s unclear who could do this anywhere near as well as what EA has done with the FIFA license, especially in the next year or two, without totally rebuilding a new engine.
