Here’s The First Picture Of The PlayStation VR2 In The Wild

Must be getting closer!

It’s just as well Sony had already revealed images of both the PlayStation VR2 headset as well as the new PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers because one indie developer has accidentally published the first “in the wild” images of the headset and controllers.

Indie dev Bit Planet Games (the studio behind Ultra Wings 1 and 2) tweeted it excitement about their game coming to PlayStation VR2 alongside an image of their dev kit arriving, without realising that obviously they weren’t allowed to do this at this time. This prompted them to quickly delete the image and re-tweet it with a PlayStation provided stock image.

There’s not a lot to learn outside of this photo although we do get a look at the super long cord which is great considering this is a wired device and it also looks like two other cords (presumably to charge the controllers are also pictured). If I had one initial observation it was that the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers are a bit bigger than I initially thought, but this is probably to be expected given the orb-like design is being used for tracking.

Just as a reminder, the PlayStation VR2 is set to launch in the next 12 or so months. The headset will have 4K/HDR visuals through the OLED lenses, with new sensory technology including vibration motors built into the headset, as well as eye tracking and inside out headset based controller tracking without the need for an external camera. The headset will connect to your PS5 using a single USB-C cord, so no more clunky breakout box.

So far, the only major launch title that we know about from a first-party point of view is Horizon Call Of The West, which you can read more about HERE. We also know that No Man’s Sky, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners Chapter 2: Retribution and Resident Evil Village are also coming to PlayStation VR2.
