Official PS5 SSD

The First ‘Official’ PS5 SSD Has Been Announced

Officially licensed PS5 SSD!

The WD_Black SN850 with Heatsink was one of the first PS5 compatible external SSDs and now Sony has announced that it is now the first officially licensed PS5 SSD.

What this means is that it is now being rebranded and re-released with the signature white/blue PS5 packaging that we’ve seen from the console all the way to official accessories such as controllers and headsets.

It’s an important step as no doubt it’ll make the decision easier for purchasers who maybe aren’t so tech savvy and don’t know which SSDs will be compatible with the PS5.

It’ll come in 1TB and 2TB varieties and just like the original WD_Black SN850 with heat sink, will run at read speeds of 7000 MB/s and write speeds of 5300MB/s.

It’s available on the WD website in the US, but will be making its way to retailers in August and probably a little bit later in Australia.

If you’re wanting to buy the original WD_Black SN850 (same SSD but without the “official” packaging, you can do so below:

Just as a reminder, these SSDs will add to the internal 825GB PS5 slot and will allow you to add either 500GB, 1TB or 2TB to your PS5 so that you can store and play even more PS5 games.
