UPDATE: Need for Speed Unbound has been officially revealed with a gorgeous trailer showing off its bold new aesthetic.

Mashing up realistic rendering techniques with comic book-esque cel effects and cel-shaded characters, Need for Speed Unbound looks somewhat like an expensive car ad in its debut showing (featuring none other than A$AP Rocky), but we’re all about trying new things and this is definitely something new for the series.

The game sees the return of Criterion Games as developers and will feature separate single-player and multiplayer campaigns as well as all the customisation and action you’d expect from a Need for Speed title. Check out the official description and the reveal trailer below:

EA is set to reveal Need For Speed Unbound tomorrow morning, but we’ve got our first look at the game courtesy of Japanese retailer Neowing

As it’s been reported for some time, the game will feature a mix of anime/cel-shaded graphics and regular-looking graphics.

The description for the game was as below: “Bringing graffiti to life in a completely new visual style, merging the latest street art with the most realistic cars in Need for Speed ??history.. Go to meetups and show off your style with many items, including limited edition gear, from the world’s latest fashion,” the listing adds. “Then add the finishing touches to your car’s style, transforming it with unique wraps and cut-out items to match your legendary custom car, and take the lead in races and put your winning pose above the competition.”

The feedback for the game so far from racing fans, has actually been pretty positive, praising the game for doing something totally different.
