Tell My Kids I Was The First To Platinum Garfield Lasagna Party

There's layers to this.

If you follow enough of the Press Start crew on socials you might have seen a bit of back-and-forth around our coverage of the upcoming Garfield Lasagna Party lately. Or rather, you might have seen our brave leader, Shannon, flying the Garfield Lasagna Party flag high in repeated attempts to convince me to cover and review the game.

And so it is with his great excitement that I’m here now to tell you, not only have I played Lasagna Party, it looks like I’m also the first (and currently only) person in the world to achieve the game’s Platinum trophy on PlayStation.

But I suppose context is important, so what is Garfield Lasagna Party? Featuring a “recognisable” cast of characters from the cross-media powerhouse that is the Garfield franchise, it’s a fairly unapologetic take on the Mario Party formula that sees up to four players compete to collect the most lasagna by moving around a board, picking up bonuses and competing in quick-fire minigames. With a slim selection of boards and modes and 32 minigames in total to compete in, it’s not going to blow Nintendo’s effort out of the water but it’s sure to please families with young kids these holidays – and has the advantage of being on more platforms than just the Nintendo Switch.

Those 32 minigames are important as well, because they’re the sole way to earn trophies when playing on PlayStation. There’s one trophy up for grabs per minigame featured – all you need to do is win at least once. That’s a fairly simple task for most, especially as you can dive right into any of the games from a special menu and set the difficulty right down to breeze through them. So, that’s exactly what I did… and to my shock (at least according to PSNProfiles) it seems like I’m the first to knock out the full list. In a month where I’ve also completed the trophy lists for God of War Ragnarok and Sonic Frontiers it’s certainly one of the fastest and easiest platinums I’ve achieved, so if you’re a trophy hunter this game might be for you!

It could very well be that I’m not actually the first to nab the platinum trophy for Garfield Lasagna Party. Perhaps there are others out there that haven’t synced their accolades to this particular list, or are embarrassed and have hidden the game in their privacy settings. I’ll certainly wear the honour proudly, if for no other reason than I was bullied into being here.

Garfield Lasagna Party is coming November 22, 2022 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Switch. It’s out today on PC. Amazon has the cheapest pre-order at $59.95 with free shipping.
