As a little surprise for Astro Bot fans, a new update arrived in June for the free Astro’s Playroom game on PS5, adding in some new PlayStation 5 artefacts to unlock and view as well as a confounding new set of secret riddles complete with their own trophies.
The update introduces a special portal to the “PlayStation Labo” area in the game, and within it an extra room to view some new models that can be unlocked in the gacha machine. You’ll find things like PS5 Slim, DualSense Edge, PlayStation Portal, PS VR2, Sense Controllers and PlayStation Access Controller. You’ll also find a countdown clock to the release of Astro Bot along with a special easter egg when you interact with the PlayStation Portal.
On top of the new collectibles, some “Special Bots” have been hidden across the various worlds with cryptic riddles that need solving to rescue them. Doing so rewards a series of new trophies, but so far only three – a Bloodborne bot hidden in the GPU Jungle level, a Returnal bot tucked away in SSD Speedway and now a driver from Gran Turismo in Cooling Springs – have been found and solved.
You can find the full, ongoing list right here, but if you’re only struggling with finding and freeing the adorable Bot version of a Gran Turismo driver, here’s how to do it:
Astro’s Playroom – How To Solve The Cooling Springs Gran Turismo Riddle (Grand Tourist trophy)
- Warp to the first area of the Cooling Springs level, called Bot Beach
- Take the slide down to the main area and head to the small pier straight ahead to the right
- Here, you’ll see a green inflatable star – stand on it and you should hear a chime
- You’ll do to do this for three other inflatable stars, in the correct order (see the images below)
- Upon standing on the last one, the trapped bot will appear
- Now, head around to the opposite side of the wind tunnel to where you are
- Here, you should see a blue shell. Hit it, and underneath is a small steering wheel
- While in front of the wheel, open the map menu and move your cursor around the map in the exact sequence pictured below. If done correctly, you’ll be hearing a bunch of car noises
- Once that’s done, your bot will be freed!
