C-Smash VRS Is A SEGA Cult Classic Reimagined For PlayStation VR2

And a demo is coming!

You’d be forgiven for not having head of Cosmic Smash, a 2001 arcade/Dreamcast game that fused the sport of Squash with the gameplay concepts of classic Breakout and wrapped them up in an incredibly distinct visual style and setting.

Now, Cosmic Smash is coming back in what feels like a very fitting way, on the PlayStation VR2. Announced on the PlayStation Blog, the game is being developed by Wolf & Wood (The Last Worker) with a stellar team of creators including Cory Schmitz (Rez Infinite, Sound Shapes) and Arkotype (Polytron), musicians Ken Ishii (Rez Infinite) and Danalogue (The Comet is Coming, Soccer 96), art director Rob Davis (The Motherless Oven) and sound designer Dan Pugsley (Alba: A Wildlife Adventure).

It’s been sanctioned by SEGA too, and while we’re yet to actually see it in full action it really seems as though the team know exactly how they want to bring this cult classic to life in VR, so it’ll be interesting to see more. Luckily, a free demo for the PS5/PSVR2 is planned to launch on March 23rd, so curious players can try it out ahead of its unannounced release date this year.

You can wishlist the game on the PlayStation Store now to be notified when the demo is available.
