Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged Has Been Announced

Sounds hot.

Developer Milestone has announced that it’s launching a sequel to its successful 2021 arcade racer, Hot Wheels Unleashed.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is launching on October 19 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC and promises to up the ante from the already-breakneck racing of the original.

The game will reportedly launch with over 130 vehicles including the addition of new types like motorcycles and ATVs, and new classifications and a customisable skill system will shake things up and allow players to craft a driving style that suits them. New environments will offer different terrains for drivers to tackle, as well as track objects to add a bit of spice to races.

Also added is a new “lateral dash” move that should add an extra layer of on-the-go strategy and dynamism to races by allowing players to find new shortcuts and overtake their opponents using verticality. Turbocharged will even have a story-based single-player campaign complete with characters to meet through animated cutscenes. All told it sounds like a massive lateral leap from the previous game in terms of content offering and depth, so fans have a lot of reason to be excited.

We gave the original Hot Wheels Unleashed a 7.5 in our review, saying “It’s no surprise given Milestone’s pedigree that Hot Wheels Unleashed is a mechanically sound and confident racing title as it boils down the true essence of Hot Wheels and puts on a showcase exactly why they’re a beloved pastime. The bloated story mode does little to obfuscate the game’s skeleton crew of modes, though I think the game will find resilience through a community of online racers and their wonderful, imaginative creations.”

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC on October 19th.
