NetherRealm has dropped a fresh new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, which gives fans a new look at some of the game’s campaign cutscenes with a focus on Scorpion and Sub-Zero as they seemingly work to establish the Lin Kuei faction in this “reborn” universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang.
The trailer also introduces two new playable fighters in Smoke and Rain, as well as confirming Sektor, Cyrax, Frost and Scorpion as Kameo fighters, Mortal Kombat 1’s new take on assist characters. It’s a solid three-and-a-half minutes of footage with a mix of cutscenes and fighting gameplay including, of course, some particularly brutal fatalities. Take a look:
“A Lin Kuei’s flame will not be easily smothered. Challenge one, fight many. It’s In Our Blood. Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by Fire God Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and Fatalities!”
One reveal that Mortal Kombat fans are still waiting is a confirmation of the six fighters potentially leaked by a listing on the Amazon Italy web store for the game’s “Kombat Pack 1” DLC, which is included in the Premium Edition and will presumably be available as a separate purchase, contains some surprising additions to the roster from outside of the Mortal Kombat universe. The supposed inclusions are:
- Quan Chi
- Omni Man
- Ermac
- Peacemaker
- Takeda
- Homelander
We recently got hands-on with Mortal Kombat 1 at Summer Game Fest and came away excited for more, saying “The game already feels locked in mechanically and it’s gorgeous—I imagine NetherRealm might use the time to tune, balance, and consider the initial meta for a game that I can see being yet another piece in what’s becoming a golden age for fighting games.”
Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19th. Amazon has pre-orders for $84.99 including shipping.
