Sony and Insomniac have revealed that the first limited edition console is in-fact a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 console. It’ll release with a special Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DualSense controller in the box. Sony also has revealed that it will be releasing the face plates and DualSense controller separately.
The console bundle, which includes a disc-based PS5 with Spider-Man 2 Cover Plates, a Spider-Man 2 DualSense Controller and voucher to download the game digitally, is coming on September 1st – well ahead of the game’s actual release on October 20. Naturally, buyers won’t be able to redeem the code until the game’s launch day on October 20th.
Those who already own a PS5 game will also be able to buy the Cover Plates and DualSense Controller separately, including Cover Plates for the digital edition of the PS5, with everything going on sale through PlayStation Direct in regions where that’s available, or through local retail channels otherwise. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on when more information comes through for local availability with pre-orders kicking off on July 28th globally.

Jacinda Chew, Senior Art Director at Insomniac Games said, “The design was inspired by the in-game symbiote that’s taking over the console and controller, but you can still see some of the underlying red under the tendrils. This represents the various ways players will experience the symbiote takeover in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It’s a constant push and pull for dominance whether it’s internal or external and the outcome is not certain.”
Players who purchase the bundle that has a voucher for the digital Standard Edition of the game will also get the same pre-order incentive items available to those who pre-order Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – an early unlock Arachknight Suit for Peter with 3 additional colour variants, an early unlock Shadow Spider Suit for Miles with 3 additional color variants, an early unlock Web Grabber gadget, and 3 skill points.
