Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer Is The Voice Of Vincent In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

First Ganondorf and now Vincent? Iconic!

We’ve had a blowout of information on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter in Square Enix’ ambitious Final Fantasy VII Remake project, including stunning new trailers and our very own, lengthy hands-on preview of the game. One exciting bit of news out of it all is the confirmation that Vincent Valentine will feature heavily in the game and even join the party as a guest character at points before eventually making his playable debut in the next title.

Of course, one things fan have been clamouring to know is who will be voicing the iconic character, and while there have been rumblings here and there we finally have confirmation from the man himself. Matthew Mercer – one of the most prolific voice actors in anime, TV and video games as well as the Dungeon Master in the super-popular Dungeons & Dragons web series, Critical Role – has revealed at New York Comic-Con 2023 that his is the voice behind Vincent in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth:

The game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, also made a surprise appearance at the NYCC 2023 Final Fantasy VII Rebirth panel, with Mercer interviewing him live on stage, which you can read about here on Gematsu.

In my recent hands-on preview of the game, I said, “If what I played here is anything to go by, there’s a good cadence here of modern-feeling open exploration bookended by visits to stunning recreations of familiar locales from Final Fantasy VII along with thoughtful updates to scenarios, characters and encounters that OG fans remember. This small taste has me incredibly excited to see the rest of Rebirth’s vast world and whether the team truly has managed to keep up the fidelity and depth of gameplay, visuals and sterling fan service achieved in Final Fantasy VII Remake in a far grander scope than before.”

We don’t have all that long either, with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth set to launch on PlayStation 5 on February 29th next year. You can pre-order it now on Amazon for $99 with free shipping and pre-order price guarantee.
