PlayStation has just dropped two new trials into rotation for PlayStation Plus Deluxe members, giving subscribers the chance to try out the opening hours of a couple of 2023’s most high profile releases. I say “high profile” both for better and for worse, as one is a serious Game of the Year contender while the other is The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

Feel more with PS5. Beyond the everyday. Beyond extraordinary. Even beyond imagination. Feel it now.
For those brave enough to sample just two hours of Larian Studios’ hugely-celebrated RPG only to inevitably get sucked in and fork out for the full thing, or brave enough to have it on public record that they played even one hour of Gollum, those are the time limits you’ll have for each trail, and you can find them below:
- Baldur’s Gate 3 – 2-hour trial for PlayStation Plus Deluxe members
- The Lord of the Rings: Gollum – 1-hour “trial” for PlayStation Plus Deluxe members
As per usual with these trials, you’ll be able to pick up the full game once your trial period has ended and continue with your progress.
We gave Baldur’s Gate 3 a huge 10/10 in our review, saying, “Baldur’s Gate 3 is a landmark achievement for CRPGs and gaming at large. The only thing more staggering than its immense scope and density of systems is the quality in which it’s all presented. Its unwavering flexibility and accommodation for player choice is intoxicating, and the replay value on offer here will no doubt cement Baldur’s Gate 3 as a timeless and regularly revisited masterpiece. For a game as rich and complex as this, it also works surprisingly well on console.
Meanwhile, we scored The Lord of the Rings: Gollum a comparatively horrendous 3/10, and said, “I struggle to think of a positive experience over the thirteen-odd hours I spent playing this game. Gollum is uninspired and dated and The Lord of the Rings fans deserve better than this.”
