PlayStation Australia has confirmed that the new look PS5 console (known unofficially as the “PS5 Slim”) will be available at local retailers from December 6th, with pre-orders starting today.
In case you’ve somehow missed it up to this point, the new model PS5 offers a smaller form factor than the current model with a new split-panel cover that helps to facilitate a major new selling point – the ability to separately purchase and attach a UHD Blu-ray disc drive to the Digital model should you want the ability to play games on disc. The console will also be available in a classic “disc” configuration with the detachable drive already included, and both now sport an upgraded 1TB SSD.
The PS5 Slim’s overall volume has been reduced by more than 30%, making it (hopefully) easier to fit into the average TV cabinet. There’s also a new and improved Vertical Stand available for purchase separately that works for all PS5 models, with the new consoles including a small set of legs to stabilise it in a horizontal configuration.
If you’re keen on upgrading, or finally picking up a PS5 for the first time with this new model, you can find pre-orders on both packages as well as the stand and disc drive, and the Pulse Explore wireless gaming earbuds and PlayStation Access controller – which all also launch on December 6th – at local retailers below:
PlayStation has also confirmed that the new model will be receiving its own range of replacement covers, with similar colours to what’s available on the current model including the new Deep Earth Collection and a matte black set – sure to be good news for those who haven’t been keen on the dual matte/gloss look on the new console.
