Update: It’s out now! Grab it here.

As predicted, then leaked, then outright announced early by mistake, a playable demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is dropping for PS5 today.

Announced during the dedicated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PlayStation State of Play, the demo will give players access to a portion of the opening of the game which picks up where Final Fantasy VII Remake left off and reimagines the iconic Nibelheim flashback sequence. Players will not only be able to control Cloud in this sequence but also Sephiroth himself.

Excitingly, a later portion around the Junon area will be added to the game closer to launch. These two sequences are some that we played ourselves last year, so you can find out more about what to expect from them right here. Those who play through the demo will not only be able to claim a Kupo Charm and Survival Set for the full game but will even be able to skip the portion of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that the demo covers, which is super handy!

We recently got hands-on with the first four hours of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, saying in our in-depth preview, “After pretty much having the DualSense controller pried out of my hands at the end of our session, I’m filled with nothing but excitement for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and unwavering confidence in this team to deliver something that’s true to the 27-year-old source material, but also fiercely modern, filled to the brim with new experiences and with an identity all its own.”
