Microsoft May Be Releasing a New Elite Controller

According to information allegedly leaked on Reddit and Baidu, Microsoft may be currently working on a version 2 of their $200 Xbox Elite Controller. The so-called leaked information indicates that V2 of the controller will support Bluetooth wireless connectivity (for Windows 10), a USB-C wired connection and a brand new charging system akin to Apple’s MagSafe; a magnetically attached power connector.

In addition to this, the anonymous Baidu user claims that the controller will support three interchangeable user profiles, three-level hair trigger locks and a new design for the rubberized grips which have caused grief for Elite users since the controller’s release in 2015.

In December of last year, Microsoft filed a patent for an adjustable tension mechanisms for thumbsticks on the Xbox One controller. It is possible that this technology will make its debut in the Elite V2, as the image below shares striking similarities with the blueprints featured in the patent.

While none of the above has been officially confirmed by Microsoft, it should be treated exclusively as a rumour for now. If they do decide to launch a v2 of the Elite controller, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft can make a splash in the market with brands like Razer, SCUF and many more producing some pretty impressive pro controllers.
