The Medium Has Been Delayed Until Next Year

Earlier this week it was reported that The Medium had been refused classification by the Australian Classification board. Today, developers have announced that the Xbox console exclusive is going to be delayed until January 2021.

Originally slated for release on December 10th, a month following the Xbox Series X/S consoles, The Medium, an ambitious psychological horror game from Bloober Team, known for their work on the Layers of Fear series, Observer and Blair Witch, will now launch on January 28th, 2021 instead. It’s worth noting the delay also extends to the game’s PC version.

This, according to Polish developers, Bloober Team, is an effort to accommodate additional development time and avoid the current release schedule of other games on the market. Although they didn’t explicitly name it, the team is most likely referring to Cyberpunk 2077 which is now slated for December 10th following a recently announced delay.

It’s worth noting that The Medium isn’t the only game to be delayed in order to avoid the window of CD Projekt Red’s enormously anticipated and sought after title. Last month, developers Rockfish Games also delayed their space-shooter Everspace 2, reasonably claiming that “competing with the arguably most anticipated video game in history is just not a good idea”.

Though this is a disappointing announcement for horror fans and Xbox Series X/S players alike, there are still plenty of other games to play on the upcoming console.
