It’s been a point of confusion after the Nintendo Switch 2 website listed it for both docked mode and handheld mode before it was removed, but Nintendo has now confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will not support VRR whilst in docked mode.

In a statement to Nintendo Life, Nintendo said: “Nintendo Switch 2 supports VRR in handheld mode only. The incorrect information was initially published on the Nintendo Switch 2 website, and we apologise for the error.”.

It’s possible that like the PS5, the Nintendo Switch 2 could get this in an update post-launch, although there could be technicaly reasons for how the Switch 2 dock passes this signal that stops it from working.

When asked about VRR coming to TV mode in a future updated, Nintendo said to Nintendo life: “We have nothing to announce on this topic.” which isn’t hugely surprising.

In handheld mode, the Nintendo Switch 2 will support VRR on its 120hz display, although it is a shame that it won’t in docked mode, as VRR is a great way of smoothing out uneven framerates.
