Super Mario Odyssey is without doubt one of the best (if not the best) Super Mario games. Whilst you can finish the game’s main story within 8-10 hours, the game is literally only opens up once you complete the main story line.
We’ve listed some of the main things that you should do after beating the main game.
MINOR SPOILERS BELOW. WILL EACH ITEM IS HEADLINED TO TELL YOU WHETHER YOU WANT TO READ IT NOT.
COLLECT ALL THE MOONS
When you’re playing through the game, you’ve probably thought to yourself that the moons list are short. Well, the good news is that when you finish the game, you unlock the ability to destroy a strange metallic box in each Kingdom. This will surround each kingdom with a bunch more moons. You’ll need to look for each one, but doing so will be incredibly rewarding.

Most of the time, the moons on each Kingdom will double. These moons are also a lot harder to find, often being locked behind harder challenges, but they’re well worth collecting.
UNLOCK MORE KINGDOMS
By collecting more moons, you’ll unlock two more Kingdoms. By collecting 250 moons, you’ll The Dark Side of the Moon. This will unlock a boss rush challenge. You can then unlock The Darker Side of the Moon by collecting 500 moons. This is one of the longest platforming sequences of the game with absolutely no checkpoints.
EXPLORE A FAVOURITE KINGDOM
Without doubt, this is one of the greatest surprises in a video game. When you beat Super Mario Odyssey, you unlock the Mushroom Kingdom which has a bunch of great surprises. Some of them include Peach’s Castle (which is very reminiscent of the one in Super Mario 64), power moons now become stars, you’ll find boss battles hidden behind paintings and the best of all, you’ll get to capture Yoshi.
DEFEAT HARDER VERSIONS OF THE BOSSES
As we just mentioned, in the Mushroom Kingdom, there’s a bunch of paintings hidden in secret passages (most of these are the same as they were in Super Mario 64). In each painting, you’ll be able to travel back to beat a harder version of each boss in the game. You’ll also get a triple moon for each of your trouble.
FIND PEACH
You’ll notice after going to the Mushroom Kingdom that Peach will not be in her castle. Instead, she’s travelling the world. You’ll discover her in each Kingdom where she’ll reward you with a power moon.
A bunch of other characters from the game will also travel to other Kingdoms, so enjoy finding them and conversing with them.
UNLOCK MORE COSTUMES
As you progress through the post-game, you’ll unlock more costumes as you collect more power moons. Most of these costumes can also be obtained through the use of Amiibo, but if you don’t have them, they’re all available by collecting power moons (and then buying them with coins). You’ll be notified with a popup bar when new costumes are available for purchase.
