EA’s Melbourne Studio Has Been Hit By Redundancies

A report by Kotaku Australia suggests that EA’s Melbourne studio, FireMonkeys has been hit by a round of layoffs.

The studio is  one of Australia’s biggest, and is responsible for games such as The Sims Mobile, Need for Speed: No Limits and the Real Racing franchise. The studio was created in 2012, and recently moved into a new office in Docklands.

Currently, the studio was developing Real Racing 4, although along with the layoffs, this was apparently cancelled earlier this week.

Kotaku also reports that developers were notified of the layoffs earlier this week, with those being affected being told through individual meetings. Those that were kept on were told via a group meeting.

Our thoughts go out to those that are affected. Layoffs are never a nice thing, but particularly in this case when it’s in our home city.
