There Has Been A Mass Exodus Of Publishers From PAX East & GDC

PAX East & GDC have both been hit with a mass exodus of publishers due to more coronavirus concerns. Adding to the list after Sony and Facebook Gaming pulled out last week, Kojima Productions, and now EA have announced they will be missing GDC, while CD Projekt Red, Square Enix and Capcom won’t be taking part in PAX East.

In a statement to Gamesindustry, EA had this to say “Having closely followed the global situation with coronavirus and with the recent escalation of cases in new regions, we have decided to take additional steps to protect the wellbeing of our employees including the restriction of all non-essential travel.”

“As a result we are also cancelling our official participation at GDC and limiting attendance to other events. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will adjust guidelines to our employees as we feel is appropriate.”

This probably won’t be the last time we have publishers pulling out of either event, with fears continuing to grow surrounding the virus.

It comes at an interesting time for gamers looking for information about some of the latest upcoming games, with presences of game companies already limited for E3, especially with both the PS5 and Xbox Series X to launch late this year. Hopefully we still get some new details from these publishers in their own time.
