EA has announced that a new Battlefield narrative campaign is now in development, and at an entire new studio named Ridgeline Games.
In a lengthy blog post celebrating 20 years of Battlefield and looking toward the future, the new Seattle-based studio was revealed as well as its leader, Marcus Lehto, an ex-Bungie Creative Art Director with credits on the majority of the early Halo games.
“Marcus will bring his long legacy of creating fascinating worlds and gripping narratives to Battlefield. Backed by a world-class team, he’ll be leading the charge to develop a narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe that will engage fans in new and exciting ways while remaining true to the classic elements of the series,” writes Battlefield franchise GM, Byron Beede.

It’s another step toward EA’s plans to create a connected Battlefield universe, plans that also previously included appointing Respawn Entertainment CEO, Vince Zampella, at the head of the franchise and expanding another of its studios, Ripple Effect, to work both on Battlefield 2042 as well as a new “player-driven” experience.
