Netflix has announced a premiere date for the third season of its massively-popular The Witcher series, based on the series of books and hugely-popular video games.
The season, which will be the last that stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia before the honour is passed over to Liam Hemsworth, is set to debut on June 29th, 2023. Season three of The Witcher will be split into two parts with the first five episodes being available on that date while the final three will premiere a month later on July 27th.
Alongside the announcement, Netflix has also dropped a one-minute teaser trailer setting the scene for the third season with some thrilling-looking encounters and plenty of Cavill furrowing those brows of his. You can watch that below:
Netflix has given the third season of The Witcher a plot summary, saying “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”
The Witcher Mania is still alive and well, with the new Netflix season impending and multiple new video game projects in the works including an Unreal Engine 5-powered remake of the original game, a multiplayer-focused title, a spin-off title and a full-fledged mainline series entry. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has also enjoyed a healthy resurgence with a massive new-gen upgrade for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC that launched just a few months ago.
