Australia’s best Sonic the Hedgehog speedrunners will battle it out to represent their sides at the new Fortress location in Sydney next week on June 23rd, with Sonic as the mascot for the NSW team of Raikou, Stylonide and The8bitbeast, while Knuckles represents Queensland’s team of Werster, 3Pills and LaceyStripes. The competition will be made up of eight events with the team left holding the most points by the end taking home the win and the Sonic of Origins Plus shield.

The clash will be broadcast on the AusSpeedruns Twitch channel, so you won’t need to make the trip to Sydney to catch the action, but if you’re keen you can grab tickets here for $10 each while they’re still available, with all parties involved in organising the event donating proceeds to Cure Cancer thanks to the efforts of the folks at Game On Cancer.

Shane Bailey, Head of Gaming & Streaming at Cure Cancer, said in the accompanying press release, “We’re honoured to be partnered with AusSpeedruns as their charity of choice, and to see a new speedrunning competition come to Australia – from the original speedster himself, no less – is simply wonderful.”

AusSpeedruns co-ordinator Ethan Levy added, “AusSpeedruns is proud to partner with Five Star Games to put on this exciting new Sonic State of Origins Plus event for all Australians. We’ve got the fastest and most incredible Sonic the Hedgehog speedrunners in our community, and they’ll be going head-to-head on the 23rd of June in the arena; at the same time raising money for Game on Cancer, a wonderful cause!”
