The Borderlands Movie Finally Has A Release Date

The gear is out of the box.

After many, many years, the embattled Borderlands movie has finally secured an official release date, although those keen to see the big-screen adaptation of the successful Gearbox franchise still have a bit of a wait ahead of them.

Announced by the official Borderlands social media accounts, the Borderlands movie is set to premiere on August 9th, 2024. So just over a year from now, which is still a fair chunk of time to finally see this thing come to fruition.

The Borderlands film comes via Lionsgate and was primarily directed by Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) and features an impressively star-studded cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Ariana Greenblatt and Kevin Hart. The film has undergone reshoots without Roth at the helm, who’s moved onto his next project, instead roping in Deadpool director Tim Miller to tie up reshoots ahead of next year’s release. Recently, HBO’s The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin has distanced himself from the project, refuting claims that he was involved in writing or attached under a false name.

The film’s synopsis reads, “Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland, a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina, a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg, Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis, the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap, a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe”

Over the weekend, Silent Hill: Ascension studio Genvid Entertainment also revealed it’s working on an interactive Borderlands streaming series titled Borderlands EchoVision Live.
