The Final Borderlands Movie Trailer Has Dropped Before Its Release Next Month

Welcome to the BCU.

Ahead of its premiere in just a couple of weeks on August 8th, Lionsgate has dropped what it’s calling the “Final Trailer” for the feature film adaptation of Borderlands.

The trailer, which shouldn’t surprise anyone who watched the debut trailer back in February, shows off the team of Lilith (Cate Blanchett), Roland (Kevin Hart), Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Dr. Patricia Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Claptrap (Jack Black) in predictably over-the-top action as they cross a lawless Pandora in search of a missing girl and the planet’s most “explosive” secrets.

While we’re probably not expecting the film to blow us away completely or give video game cinema adaptation its “The Last of Us” moment, it certainly looks like a good time for anyone into Borderlands’ specific flavour of mayhem.

You can check out the new trailer below:

The Borderlands film comes via Lionsgate and was primarily directed by Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) and features an impressively star-studded cast that includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Ariana Greenblatt and Kevin Hart. The film has undergone reshoots without Roth at the helm, who’s moved onto his next project, instead roping in Deadpool director Tim Miller to tie up reshoots ahead of this year’s release.

The film’s synopsis reads, “Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland, a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina, a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg, Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis, the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap, a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to BORDERLANDS.”
