Black Myth: Wukong Already Has Over 2 Million Players On Steam

Less than two hours from launch!

Update 21/8: Continuing to absolutely storm the ranks, Black Myth: Wukong has already slung into an astonishing 2nd place in the Steam charts for all-time concurrent player peak at over 2.2 million, beating both Palworld and Counter-Strike 2 for the honour, and still less than a day since launch.

It looks like all that viral pre-release marketing and those recent, glowing reviews have done the trick for Black Myth: Wukong, with the game having just launched at noon today and already rocketing up the charts with more than 1 million concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB.

In less than two hours since becoming available globally, and at the time of writing, Black Myth: Wukong has polled over 1.2 million concurrent players on Steam, instantly taking the 6th spot in all time peak player count on the platform – above Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring, and just below the likes of Palworld, Counter-Strike 2 and DOTA. Given it’s a single-player game, it’s incredibly impressive.

Given these numbers don’t include PC players on the Epic Games Store, or PS5 players, which are also getting into the game today, that’ll make for some big day one sales numbers overall and a massive success for Chinese studio Game Science, seemingly untroubled by the still-lingering allegations of toxic workplace culture and sexist views from its leadership.

At the time of writing, the game is sitting at a very healthy 82 on Metacritic, based on 57 verified critic reviews –though we know that early review access was only available on PC, so there aren’t yet any reviews of the PS5 version available. We also weren’t provided review code for this one, but we’ll endeavour to cover it if possible.
