The Nintendo Switch microSD Cards Won’t Work On Nintendo Switch 2

The console uses a new type of microSD

Nintendo announced HEAPS about the new Nintendo Switch 2 this evening, including the fact that the Nintendo Switch 2 will ship with 256gb of onboard memory.

But you’ll also be able to expand the Nintendo Switch 2 with microSD cards if you require more space. Given that the game will be able to run at 4K already, you’ll probably need it too.

The only catch? The current microSD cards that you use with your Nintendo Switch will not be compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.

Instead, Nintendo Switch 2 will utilise microSD Express cards. These microSD cards are a much faster speed, more in line with the faster Game Cards that the Nintendo Switch 2 will use.
