Super Mario Bros And Other Arcade Classics Are Coming To Nintendo Switch But Still No Sign Of Virtual Console

One of the smaller announcements from today’s Nintendo Direct was the fact that Arcade Archives would bring some classic games to the Nintendo Switch.

This collection will begin releasing on the Nintendo Switch on September 28th with Mario Bros. Nintendo has said that others such as VS.Super Mario Bros, VS. Balloon Fight, VS. Ice Climber, VS. Pinball and VS. Clu Clu land will follow.

Nintendo promises that these contain differences that can’t be found in their NES counterparts. I’m wondering whether these could be the free games that could be getting online support (and provided for free) when Nintendo’s online expands next year.

It also makes me wonder whether we won’t actually see a “virtual console” on Nintendo Switch. Is this the start of a brand new line of retro games that will be released onto Nintendo Switch. Are Nintendo dropping the VC line?
