It’s been expected given that Nintendo wouldn’t answer directly when asked if the Nintendo Switch 2 used hall effect analogue sticks, but the company has now confirmed that the new Joy-Con controllers do not use hall effect analogue sticks.
Nate Bihldorff, the Senior Vice President of Product Development & Publishing at Nintendo of America, told Nintendo Life that “the Joy-Con 2’s controllers have been designed from the ground up. They’re not Hall Effect sticks, but they feel really good.”
We do however know that the Joy-Con analogue sticks have been totally re-designed and so feel extremely different and smoother, so I absolutely would hope that Nintendo has rectified this issue to make them more durable.
For me personally, I’ve never had an issue with stick drift, so I’m not really bothered by the decision, but I’d hope that Nintendo has fixed one of the main issues with the original Switch this tme around.
