Sons Of The Forest Is Now Launching As An Early Access Game Instead Of Being Delayed

Same release date, slightly different plan.

Endnight Games, the studio behind the acclaimed open world survival horror game, The Forest, has updated its plans for the launch of the upcoming sequel, Sons of the Forest.

After multiple delays, the team had finally settled on a release date of February 23rd for the initial PC release of the game, but has recently issued a new statement announcing that, while the date will be kept, the game is now moving to an “early access” launch instead of a full release.

The statement posted to Steam reads:

“Hey Everyone,

“It’s been a long journey since we first started ‘Sons of The Forest’ development and it’s grown into the biggest most complex game we have ever made. There is still so much more we want to add; items, new mechanics, gameplay balance and more. We didn’t want to delay again so have instead decided to involve the community in the continued development of this project and keep our February 23rd release date but instead release in Early Access.

“The Forest turned out to be a massive success, due mostly to the awesome community and the suggestions, feedback, and bug reports the players shared with us. We are really excited and hope that players want to come on this new journey with us to make this the ultimate survival horror simulator.

The team at endnight”

Endnight says it estimates the game will be in early access for around 6-8 months, in which time it plans to improve balance and core gameplay, iron out bugs and add more mechanics, items and lore. The version of the game that launches on February 23rd will be playable in both single-player and multiplayer for up to eight players, with a new story, new building and crafting systems, dynamic weather and season, plenty of new weapons and enemies and more.
