These Sydney Developers Want Your Rental Horror Stories For Their Next Game

We've all got at least one!

Sydney development duo, Fuzzy Ghost, has kicked off a very unique and relatable campaign to promote its upcoming indie title, Janet DeMornay is a Slumlord (and a witch).

You might remember Fuzzy Ghost as the team behind Queer Man Peering Into A Rock Pool.jpg, a game we adored when it launched last year. Their new game is billed as a horror comedy that takes inspiration from irreverent classics like Beetlejuice, casting players as Andrew, a new tenant to a dilapidated Sydney terrace house. Oh, and the house has been transported to another dimension… and the landlord is an ex-shopping channel star and a witch.

In what is perhaps the best promotional campaign anyone could’ve come up with for this premise, Fuzzy Ghost wants the Aussie gaming community to reach out with their best/worst rental horror stories to be feature in the game as hidden collectible Case Files. Winners will also receive a free copy of the game at launch and be featured in the credits. You can enter by submitting your story right here.

“We wanted to make a horror game, so we asked ourselves: In Australia in the 2020s, what’s something that’s truly terrifying? To be honest the answer came pretty quickly—being a renter,” said Scott Ford, co-founder of Fuzzy Ghost and experienced renter in Sydney’s inner west. “JDM is a horror comedy about renting, and it feels like everyone we know has had a rental experience that’s horrible, or hilarious or both. We wanted to share their stories, as well as our own. Just have a great big bitch session, really. But in a game. And with witches.”
