Battlefield 2042 Won’t Have A Single Player Campaign So The Team Can Fully Focus On Multiplayer

DICE has confirmed Battlefield 2042 will not include a single-player campaign, instead electing to fully dial in on the game’s multiplayer experience.

Speaking with DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson, he said “the team was super clear” when they started work on the project: “our ambition was to revolutionize sandbox shooter, multiplayer gameplay,” he said. “Multiplayer is what DICE has always done best, so we really leaned in there and doubled down.”

While 2042 would have been rife for opportunity with the series’ recent foray into War Stories – smaller, focussed anthology stories based loosely within history – Gabrielson has promised to tell a story through the game’s multiplayer: “for players out there that love narrative, that love storytelling, that love deep immersion — there’s going to be loads in this game.”
