Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West’s Creative Director Has Already Hinted At Sequel Plans

Now that Horizon Forbidden West has been out in the wild for a couple of months, it stands to reason that many fans have finished the game’s story and seen some of its most daring and affecting final-act scenes.

Speaking with VG247 about one scene in particular (which we won’t spoil here, but it’s one of the game’s best), the game’s Creative Director Mathijs de Jonge spoke about the Horizon series’ approach to storytelling and worldbuilding. The snippet in question contains an especially juicy line concerning the future of Horizon as well.

“Horizon is really about mystery; each of our stories has been about uncovering mysteries in both the old world and the present day, when the game takes place,” says de Jonge to VG247, “Indeed, there is plenty of backstory that we can tap into to develop new storylines and create new mysteries from what we’ve already established.

“And, indeed, this game ends with another big cliffhanger, where we’re setting up some things for the next game once again.”

Now that might not seem overly surprising to anyone who’s finished Horizon Forbidden West but it’s also the first we’ve heard from anyone at Guerrilla themselves about a continuation of the series. Unless de Jonge is talking strictly about the upcoming PSVR2 title, Horizon Call of the Mountain, that is.

We can only assume there’s more Horizon to come though, the series has quickly become one of PlayStation’s tentpole franchises and Horizon Forbidden West was incredibly well received (we gave it a 10/10!). If you have access to a PS5 or PS4 and haven’t checked it out yet,  you can pick it up for a very decent price right now on Amazon.

Thanks again VG247!
