Development Has Officially Begun On A New Mafia Game

And it's likely a prequel!

2K and Hangar 13 have announced that development is officially underway on a new Mafia game.

In a blog post celebrating the series’ 20 year anniversary, members of the Hangar 13 team give some insight into the history of the franchise and its development, including rebuilding the original game for a new generation for the excellent Mafia: Definitive Edition. At the end, General Manager Roman Hladík answers a question regarding the future of the Mafia series:

Lastly, can you tell us anything about what’s next for the Mafia franchise?

Hladík: I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project! While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.

Last we heard, the next Mafia game was set to be a prequel to the original trilogy and will be built on Unreal Engine 5. While this latest development doesn’t speak to either of these details it at least gives us confirmation that a new game is on the way.
