The PS5 Has Had Record-Breaking Sales Thanks To Increased Supply

Numbers nearly as big as the console itself.

Sony has released its sales figures for the third quarter its 2022 Financial Year, showing some massively encouraging numbers for the PlayStation 5 console.

While the report (which you can view here) shows that the company’s overall operating income was down 8% year-on-year, its “Game & Network Services” income was up 25% and its overall sales were up a whopping 53%.

A large amount of this can be attributed to sales of PlayStation hardware and software, taking up nearly an equal share of the overall sales in that segment followed by a 10% contribution from its PlayStation Plus and advertising revenue.

It’s reported that 7.1 million PS5 consoles were sold during the quarter, which is a massive increase from 3.9 million in the same period the previous year. Of course that’s largely thanks to an enormous turnaround in availability of PS5s in stores – a face that PlayStation has been plugging heavily in its new advertising campaign “Live From PS5.”

Overall, the company has shipped more than 32 million PS5s globally.

Software sales have also seen huge income for Sony, off the back of the likes of God of War Ragnarok which was recently revealed to have clocked 11 million units in its first three months of release.
