The Resident Evil 4 Remake Almost Got Another Chainsaw Controller

So close!

Capcom’s gorgeous remake of Resident Evil 4 is almost upon us, launching in just over a month on March 24th, but you’d be forgiven for wanting it to come a little later after learning of the fate of one potential inclusion.

Fans will remember the infamous chainsaw controller that realised alongside the original versions of Resident Evil 4, both for the GameCube and the PlayStation 2. It was absolutely more of a collectible oddity than the kind of thing you’d actually play the game with, although it did fully function as a (very cumbersome) controller. Despite is relative uselessness, I’m sure many of us had held out some small hope that Capcom might revive it in some form for the remake – and it turns out the game’s development team were as well.Image Source: Nubytech on Amazon

In a recently-released video from Game Informer where Producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, and Director, Yasuhiro Ampo, were asked a series of 80 rapid-fire questions about the Resident Evil 4 remake. At around the 5:10 mark, the question is asked: Will this game also come with a novelty chainsaw controller?

To which the two confirm, surprisingly, that they’d actually thought about it and simply didn’t have the time/resources to make it happen. Hirabayashi-san says in response, “We wanted to do one, but we are already putting everything we have into development of the game,” Hirabayashi said. “Maybe we can look into that some other time if there’s an opportunity.”

The full interview is quite entertaining, and among the plethora of joke questions does actually contain some interesting tidbits around the Resident evil 4 remake, so check it out below:

We played a small portion of Resident Evil 4 ourselves at Tokyo Game Show last year and came away very impressed by how Capcom is playing with the game’s overall tone and atmosphere through cutting-edge visuals while still delivering something faithful for fans.

Resident Evil 4 is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC on March 24, 2023. Amazon has the cheapest pre-order price at $84.99 with free shipping.
