Hey, Final Fantasy fans! Guess what? It’s time to go into hiding and throw your phone into the closes lake or fishbowl margherita because copies of Final Fantasy XVI are reportedly out in the world a week ahead of release and spoilers are appearing online.
Multipleoutlets have reported seeing spoilers, both written and visual, on various social media apps and message boards, so there are definitely people out there playing the game early and, unfortunately, attempting to ruin the magic for everyone else.
Obviously, we won’t link to any of the spoilers, but it took us all of a few seconds to turn up evidence of someone playing the game, so it’s dicey out there.
Given the amount of time we have between now and release, it’s possible that some early players could start sharing some fairly late-game spoilers or even the game’s ending, so now would be a good time to begin muting any relevant hashtags and frantically scrolling and yelling every time you see the words Final Fantasy XVI on your phone or computer screen.
If you do want an early taste of the game, might I recommend you play the actually-publicly-available Final Fantasy XVI demo, instead? It covers the first couple of hours of the game and allows for progress to be transferred over to the full game.
And if that’s not enough, we also have another early look at the game from our hands-on preview at the Square Enix office in Japan, which definitely doesn’t contain anything I would consider a spoiler. In it, I said, “It’s been in good enough hands this whole time that I’ve always felt rather confident in the game to really bring the single-player Final Fantasy experience back into good stead, but knowing what I now know and playing what I played I’m almost certain that this will be the Final Fantasy to truly wow the world once again.”
