Final Fantasy XVI Has Sold Over 3 Million Copies

That's a lotta gil!

Square Enix has revealed that more than three million players have taken up the journey to the dark fantasy world of Valisthea in Final Fantasy XVI, according to sales data shared less than a week since launch.

The publisher also highlighted that the PS5 exclusive has earned itself more than 20 “perfect review scores” from outlets across the globe, with the game currently sitting at a respectable 88 aggregate review score on Metacritic.

For comparisons sake, Final Fantasy XV reportedly “shipped” around 5 million units in its first week across physical and digital, but was available on both the PS4 (with a higher install base at the time compared to PS5) and the Xbox One.

It might not quite be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom numbers either, which ticked over 10 million units in just three days of being on sale, but with a PS5 console install base that’s still less than a third of the Nintendo Switch at last count, it certainly seems to be shooting for the big leagues.

We gave Final Fantasy XVI a solid 9/10 in our review, saying “Final Fantasy XVI is an epic in every sense of the word. Consistently sharp writing, a captivating cast of characters, exhilarating combat, and a timeless soundtrack coalesce into an experience that showcases what the PlayStation 5 is capable of at the highest level. It constantly finds ways to top its own scale in remarkable fashion, but never loses sight of the intimate journey its built around.”

Final Fantasy XVI is available now with Amazon selling copies of the game for $84.99 with free shipping.

A playable demo of the game is also available for PS5 owners to download and try for themselves. You can grab that here.
