A TMNT: The Last Ronin Game Is Coming And It’s A Current-Gen Only, AAA Title

God of Wartortle

After word of its existence first appeared way back in March this year, THQ Nordic has finally acknowledged and officially announced an upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game based on one of the franchise’s more dark and gritty comic runs – The Last Ronin.

Doug Rosen, senior vice president for games and emerging media at Paramount Global, told Polygon earlier this year that the game would be a third-person action role-playing game inspired by the likes of Sony’s recent God of War titles, also saying it would be authentic to the story of The Last Ronin arc, which is set in a future where only one of the turtles has survived.

Fans hoping for a truly cutting-edge TMNT video game might be in luck as well, with The Last Ronin in development solely for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A release date hasn’t been locked in, or even a release window, but you can see the reveal trailer below (which very not-subtly seems to confirm that this is a one-turtle affair):

Who is the Last Ronin? In a future, battle-ravaged New York City, a lone surviving Turtle embarks on a seemingly hopeless mission seeking justice for the family he lost.

From the minds of the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and based on the best-selling comic book event by Eastman, Waltz, Bishop, Delgado, and the Escorza Brothers: the official video game adaptation of TMNT: The Last Ronin.
