Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Will Let Players Slow Gameplay All The Way Down To 30% Speed

More like Miles Molasses, amirite?

According to a new update found on the official PlayStation website (shared by Insider Gaming) for the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, developer Insomniac is (unsurprisingly) focused on further improving its efforts towards accessibility and approachability in the highly-anticipated sequel, which includes one of the best features from its last game – Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

In Spider-Man 2, players will have the ability to slow down gameplay to speeds of 70%, 50% and even 30% of the standard, making it easier for players who struggle with the reaction speeds and/or dexterity required to tackle things like traversal and combat. In Insomniac’s own Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart this could be mapped to a quick button press, making it simple to dip in and out of slow motion as needed without having to fiddle with settings, so hopefully this remains true for its implementation in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

This is the brief amount of information that the game’s website listing had to offer regarding the improvements being made in player access and comfort:

Building on the accessibility improvements in previous titles, these features allow the game to be enjoyed by more players of different abilities:

  • Audio: screen reader support will read aloud all on-screen text in menus.
  • Captions: on-screen captions and audio descriptions are available for cinematic scenes.
  • Gameplay: you can choose to slow down the action to 70%, 50%, or 30% of the full speed; switching back to regular speed at any time.

Insomniac is yet to fully reveal the entire suite of settings that will be available, but presumably it’ll be as extensive and considered as previous games and most of the PlayStation first-party stable. We’re just about two months out from release now, so more information should definitely start to come trickling through over the next weeks.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases exclusively for PS5 on October 20, 2023. Amazon has pre-orders for $99 with free shipping.
