While the majority of August’s line-up of PlayStation Plus Extra/Deluxe additions has already dropped, including the excellent Moving Out 2, one last title has been waiting to be unleashed at its proper launch date – and that’s Sea of Stars.
The good news is, that time is right now with Sea of Stars having officially released and now available for PlayStation Plus Extra (and Deluxe) subscribers to download and play. The game also releases today for other platforms like Xbox (it’s also on Game Pass!), Switch and PC.
We published our full review of the game overnight, scoring it a healthy 9/10 and calling it “a heartfelt love letter” while saying “Sea of Stars is simultaneously a love letter and modernisation of the legendary turn-based RPGs of old. It retains everything that made them such a core part of the industry so many years ago, while poking fun at tropes and conventions in an entertainingly self-aware manner. Much like The Messenger, Sea of Stars is another smash hit from Sabotage Studio, and is undoubtedly one of the best games of this year.”

WHAT IS SEA OF STARS?
Coming from Sabotage Studios, the folks behind the excellent retro platformer The Messenger, Sea of Stars is, “…a turn-based RPG inspired by the classics. It tells the story of two Children of the Solstice who combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fending off the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.”
Sea of Stars is aiming to combine nostalgia for the turn-based RPGs of the 16/32-bit eras while modernising them with thoughtful mechanics and fresh ideas around combat, movement and traversal.
