A Beyond Good And Evil 20th Anniversary Edition Looks To Be On The Way

Beyond excited.

Ubisoft might not be in a hurry to talk about its ambitious but missing-in-action sequel, Beyond Good & Evil 2, but apparently it’s made the call to dig back into the archives and dust off the 2003 cult hit for a snazzy 20th Anniversary edition release, if a recent listing by the USA’s Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is to be believed.

The rating reveals that the game is set to release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC but doesn’t make any kind of mention as to when it might release or what could be featured in this new edition of the game, other than describing what’s in the original:

“This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a reporter accompanied by a pig-like companion investigating a conspiracy on the planet of Hillys. From a third-person perspective, players explore fantasy locations, take photos of evidence, solve puzzles, and fight robot and alien enemies. Combat is sometimes fast-paced, with players using melee weapons (e.g., staffs, torches) to strike stylized enemies that generally break apart or vanish into puffs of smoke. One boss battle depicts a squid-like alien stabbed in the eye, with yellow-green splatter effects.”

Last we’d heard, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was suffering from a protracted development and unclear vision that’s seen many members of the studio leave, and it was only recently that the Beyond Good & Evil 2’s creative director Emile Morel sadly passed away. A movie adaptation is also in the works at Netflix but little has been said about that since its initial announcement in 2020.
