Red Dead Redemption Just Got A Surprise 60FPS Patch On PS5

Ride em, cowboy!

When the original Red Dead Redemption dropped on Nintendo Switch and PS4 back in August, it was a welcome new way for fans to replay the game after 13 years, but as a port it wasn’t exactly groundbreaking. The Switch version’s 30FPS cap made some degree of sense, but playing a game from 2010 on a modern PlayStation console at that same frame rate definitely felt a touch odd.

Now though, at least some of the folks playing Red Dead Redemption will be able to switch on a much better experience. As of the just-released version 1.03 update for the game, those playing the PS4 version of the game on a PS5 console will have the ability to toggle on a 60FPS option. Voila!

Interestingly, Rockstar seemingly hasn’t made a big fuss of this new feature which, in the current state of video game discourse, certainly would have gone down a treat with players.

We reviewed the Switch version of Red Dead Redemption when it launched in August, scoring it a 7.5/10 and saying “The Switch port of Red Dead Redemption is a faithful way to get into the world of Red Dead. It looks good as long as you adjust expectations and consider the game’s age, and performs consistently well in both handheld and docked modes. While many aspects will feel dated, I still had a fun time exploring the old west with John during the last gasps of the American frontier.”
